Verifying domain ownership for Google Workspace

To use Google Workspace services, you must verify that you own the domain. Domain verification is completed by adding a DNS TXT record provided in the Google Admin Console.

Prerequisites
Administrator access to the Google Admin Console
Access to your domain’s DNS management panel (domain registrar or DNS provider)

Steps to Verify Domain Ownership
Step 1. Sign in to Google Admin Console

  1. Log in using an administrator account.
Note: If you are not using an admin account, you will not be able to access the Admin Console.
  2. Visit: https://admin.google.com

Step 2. Navigate to Domain Management

  1. Go to Menu
  2. Select Account → Domains → Manage domains
  3. Click Verify domain for the domain or subdomain you want to verify

Step 3. Generate the Verification Record

  1. In the next panel, click Get started

  2. Choose your domain registrar from the list
  3. Click Continue
  4. Under the TXT record section:
    Copy the Value, including
    google-site-verification=

Step 4. Add the TXT Record to DNS

  1. Log in to your domain registrar or DNS provider
  2. Open the DNS management panel
  3. Add a new TXT record with the copied value
  4. Save the changes

Step 5. Confirm Domain Verification

  1. Once the TXT record is added and has propagated:
Go back to the Google Admin Console
  2. If you closed the verification window:
Repeat the steps above to access the verification screen again
  3. Click Come back here and confirm, then select Confirm

  4. Google will search for the TXT record and verify domain ownership

Verification Results
Verified: If the TXT record is found, domain verification is completed
Not verified: If the record is not found, a message will appear stating the domain could not be verified

Troubleshooting Steps

  • Double-check DNS entries
Ensure the TXT record value is copied exactly, including google-site-verification=
  • Allow time for propagation
DNS changes may take 4–8 hours (and sometimes up to 24 hours) to propagate
  • Verify the correct DNS panel
Ensure the TXT record is added in the active DNS provider, not just the domain registrar
  • Contact domain registrar support
They can help confirm where DNS records should be updated and assist with troubleshooting
