Understanding your domain's home directory in cpanel

The table below represents each of the directories on your cPanel and its purpose: 
 

   # .cpaddons

It stores information about cPanel addons

   # .trash

Items deleted from the file manager or moved to trash will be present here.

  # .cagefs

It is for the virtualized file system that keeps this cPanel account and the others on the server private from each other. This will only be found if the server is using CloudLinux.

  # .cl.selector

It stores a few options for the cPanel account, like the PHP implementation and a list of .htaccess file locations.

  # .cpanel

It stores configurations and caches for cPanel.

  # .cphorde

It stores configurations for the Horde webmail client.

  # .htpasswds

It will store hashed passwords for directories protected by the Directory Privacy feature.

  # .softaculous

It stores information for the Softaculous addon to cPanel included in Shared, Business, and Reseller hosting.

  # .spamassassin

It stores the preferences for spam filtering of incoming mail to domains on the cPanel account.

# .subaccounts

It stores a SQLite database of email, ftp, and other accounts within the cPanel account.

  # .htaccess

This is used for managing or debugging a website.
This file will be generated and edited by cPanel changes such as changing php versions, adding a redirect, WordPress installations, or other software and may be edited if needed for various reasons.

  # .well-known

This directory that stores temporary files for domain validation during AutoSSL certificate generation.
