Eligibility and Registration Requirements for .AU Domain Names

.AU domain names may be registered only by Australian entities or companies incorporated or legally operating in Australia, in accordance with applicable auDA policies.


The registrant must provide the following details to fulfill the eligibility criteria:

1. Eligibility Identification :

The registrant must provide a valid Eligibility ID Type from the following list:

  • Australian Company Number (ACN)

  • Australian Business Number (ABN)

  • Australian Registered Body Number (ARBN)

  • State or Territory Business Number (VIC BN, NSW BN, SA BN, NT BN, WA BN, TAS BN, ACT BN, QLD BN)

  • Australian Trademark (TM)

  • Other approved identifiers

The corresponding Eligibility ID must be provided and will be validated at the time of submission.

2. Entity Type

Based on the Eligibility ID Type and ID provided, the registrant’s Entity Type will be automatically determined and may include, but is not limited to:

  • Company

  • Registered Business

  • Sole Trader

  • Partnership

  • Incorporated Association

  • Commercial Statutory Body

  • Foreign Company

  • Trademark Owner or Pending Trademark Owner

Note: If the Eligibility ID Type is a Trademark, the Entity Type must be selected as either Trademark Owner or Pending Trademark Owner.

3. Eligibility Name

The Eligibility Name will be automatically populated for state and territory business numbers.
For Trademark-based registrations, the registrant must provide the company or trademark owner's name as the Eligibility Name.

4. Registrant Name

For ACN, ABN, or ARBN registrations, the Registrant Name will be automatically retrieved.
For all other Eligibility ID Types, the registrant must provide the proprietor’s name, which must be a natural person.

5. Eligibility Basis

The registrant must declare one of the following eligibility reasons:

  1. The domain name is an exact match, abbreviation, or acronym of the registrant’s legal, trading, or entity name; or

  2. The domain name has a close and substantial connection to the registrant’s business, activities, or operations.

    Note:  All registration details are subject to post-submission verification by the registrar.
    Applications containing inaccurate, incomplete, or misleading information may be rejected or cancelled in accordance with policy requirements.
