Bigrock

Transferring a Domain Name from GoDaddy

When a domain is transferred, the name servers associated with the domain will stay the same - for example: ns1.OldRegistrar.com and ns2.OldRegistrar.com.

However, since the domain is no longer with the GoDaddy, GoDaddy's name servers will stop responding to any queries for your domain name. This might cause a downtime until you switch your domain to the BigRock DNS.

If you are using a third party DNS provided by your hosting company, the domain transfer will not cause any downtime, since the DNS server settings will not be affected.

Before you submit a transfer request with BigRock, you must obtain your EPP code (if applicable) from GoDaddy and make sure that your domain is unlocked.

How to Unlock your Domain with GoDaddy

  1. Click on Domain Manager in the 'My Products' section
  2. Select the domain(s) to unlock and click on 'Locking'
  3. Deselect 'Lock Domains' to have the domains unlocked
  4. Click Ok

To obtain your EPP code from GoDaddy, follow these steps

  1. Log in in to your GoDaddy Account
  2. Click Domain Manager in My Products section
  3. Click on the domain you need the EPP code for
  4. Click Send By Email in the Authorization Code field
  5. Click OK

In most cases you will also need to disable privacy protection service for the domain.

How to cancel Domains using a Proxy Service with GoDaddy

  1. Go to the Domains by a Proxy website and log in to your account
  2. Select My Domains
  3. Select Cancel Your Private Registration checkbox next to the domain name(s) you need to
  4. disable privacy protection for.
  5. Click Continue
  6. Select Yes - Cancel Domains By Proxy for the domain name(s) listed above and click Submit

Once the domain name is unlocked and you have your EPP code you can initiate a transfer to BigRock.

Once the administrative contact approves the transfer request and it is initiated at the registry level, you can accept the transfers on GoDaddy's site: Hover over Domains -> Domain Management -> hover over Domains in the Domain Manager menu -> click 'Pending Transfers' and accept the transfers from there.

  6. On the next page, mark the circle next to Leave Domain Protect Off, Check the box for Request Authorization Code*, then click Save.

The Domain Name is now unlocked in your Account Manager, it may take up to 24 hours for the update to show throughout the internet. Your Authorization Code will be e-mailed to the Primary Contact within 15 minutes of clicking Save.

*Authorization Codes are not required for .bz, .cc, .tel, .tv and .ws extensions.

To turn off Private Registration (if it has been purchased for the Domain Name)

  1. Go to http://www.networksolutions.com/ and click on Manage Account.
  2. Enter the User ID and Password for your Network Solutions Account Manager.
  3. Click on My Domain Names under the My Products and Services tab.

Confirm that the WHOIS Administrative Contact e-mail is correct for the Domain Name

  1. You can look up the WHOIS information for the Domain Name at http://www.networksolutions.com//whois/index.jsp.
  2. If the WHOIS information is not correct, please follow the link below for instructions on updating the WHOIS information: http://www.networksolutions.com//support/how-to-view-orupdate-whois-contacts/

Once you have followed these steps, the transfer can be initiated with the gaining registrar. An e-mail will be sent by the gaining registrar to the WHOIS Administrative Contact with instructions on approving the transfer. Once you have approved the transfer, it takes between 5 and 7 days for the transfer to complete. During this time, there can be no changes made to the Domain Name, including DNS server changes. If you need to change your DNS servers, please make sure the changes are in effect prior to approving the transfer through the gaining registrar.

The following are common items that can cause transfers to be delayed or failed:

The Domain Name has not been registered for 60 days - ICANN regulations state that a Domain Name cannot be transferred within 60 days of initial purchase, there is no way to bypass this regulation

The Authorization Code is denied - As Authorization Codes are random sets of letters and numbers, are case sensitive, and may contain characters that would be mistaken for other characters; we advise to copy and paste the Authorization Code from the e-mail we send rather than typing it in the new registrar's system.

The Domain Name is expired and deactivated - While most expired domain names may be transferred, if the Domain Name has been deactivated, it will require contacting us to have the name reactivated.

Please call a transfer specialist at 1-800-200-7625 for assistance.

There is a 30 day transfer lock on the Domain Name - We place a high value on the security of our customers' accounts and domain names, therefore we have a process in place to lock the domain names in an account for 30 days when any of the following changes are made within 7 days of a password reset to help prevent fraudulent transfers. If you have a transfer lock on your Domain Names, the Primary Contact for the Account can contact our transfer specialists at 1-800-200-7625 for assistance with having the lock reviewed for expedited removal.

  • Primary Contact e-mail change
  • Primary Contact name is changed
  • WHOIS Administrative Contact e-mail is changed
  • WHOIS Administrative Contact is changed
  • User IDs are merged
  • Primary Contact is replaced

There may be other situations where a Domain Name, or even an entire account, may not be allowed to transfer. If you have any questions, you can always contact a transfer specialist at 1-800-200-7625 for more information.

Transferring Domains from Melbourne IT

Domain name transfers can usually be completed in five days or less, but some transfers may take up to seven days.

To transfer a domain name from a Melbourne IT to us, you will need the following

  1. Your domain name unlocked
  2. Access to the email address on file for the Administrative Contact for the domain name
  3. Authorization or EPP code (for .com, .net, .org, .biz, .info, .us, .tv, .name, .de, and .asia domain names only).

Note: The domain name transfer cannot succeed unless the domain name is unlocked, the Administrative Contact email address is valid, and the correct authorization code is provided (for .com, .net, .org, .biz, .info, .us, .tv, .name, .de, and .asia domain names).

See below for a description of the specific elements and issues involved in transferring a domain name from a Melbourne IT to BigRock.

Unlocking a Domain Name

By default, most domain names registered with Melbourne ITs are locked.

Domain name locking prevents unauthorized transfers of your domain name. Before a domain name transfer is requested, the lock must be removed.

Your Melbourne IT can unlock your domain name. Contact them directly to unlock it. If you do not know your Service Provider, the information can be sent to you:

  1. Go to http://www.melbourneit.com.au/cc/myaccount.
  2. Enter your domain name and email address in the Find My Domain Service Provider area to generate an email containing the information.

The Importance of the Domain Name's Administrative Contact

The Administrative Contact, defined by the registrant, is one of the four contacts listed in the Whois database for a registered domain name. As part of the domain name transfer process, we email the Administrative Contact at the address listed in the Whois database.

The email contains the Transaction ID, Security Code, and instructions that are used to approve the transfer.

Changing Administrative Contact Information

If the Administrative Contact's email address on file for the domain name is not correct, update the email address in your OpenSRS account with Tucows.

  1. Go to http://www.melbourneit.com.au/cc/myaccount.
  2. Enter your domain name, user name and password.
  3. Click Admin Contact.
  4. Update the Administrative Contact's email address.
  5. Click Save Information.

If you do not have login information for your domain management area, contact Tucows for assistance.

Authorization Code

To transfer a .com, .net, .org, .biz, .info, .us, .tv, .name, .de, or .asia domain name, you need an authorization code. This is a unique code assigned by registrars to these domain names at the time of registration.

To Obtain the Authorization Code

  1. Log in to your Resellers Management Interfaceat http://www.melbourneit.com.au/cc/myaccount.
  2. Click Domain Extras.
  3. Select the required domain name.
  4. Click Info. The authorization code displays in the Domain Auth Code field.

Transferring a Domain Name

After you've prepared the domain name and obtained the required information, you're ready to begin the transfer.

You have 30 days from the transfer purchase date to complete the transfer. If the transfer fails, you may resubmit your transfer request after correcting the problem causing the failure, and then retry the transfer during that 30 day window.

  1. Advise the domain name's Administrative Contact of the transfer.
  2. Purchase the transfer from our website. Within 24 hours, we email the domain name's Administrative Contact with instructions on approving the transfer.
  3. Approving the transfer requires access to the account in which the transfer was purchased. If the Administrative Contact doesn't have access to the account, the email (containing the Transaction ID, Security Code, and instructions) should be forwarded to someone who does.
  4. After the transfer is approved, we send a transfer request to the registry.
  5. The registry notifies Tucows of the request.
  6. Tucows sends an acceptance or denial notice to the registry. They have five calendar days to deny the transfer. Otherwise, the transfer is automatically approved.
  7. The registry notifies us of the acknowledgement or denial.
  8. We send an email confirming the transfer outcome to the email address on file in the customer account where the transfer was purchased.

Transferring Domains from Wild West Domains

In order to be able to transfer your domain from Wild West Domains to BigRock you will need to go through the following 5 steps:

  1. Verify that the Domain Name is eligible for Transfer
  2. Confirm contact information
  3. Obtain the authorization code
  4. Unlock the domain
  5. Transfer the domain name to BigRock

These steps are explains in detail below.

Verify that the domain name is eligible for transfer

To make sure your domain name can be transferred, check the following:

  1. The domain name has been registered for at least 60 days, and has been at Wild West Domains for at least 60 days.
  2. The domain name is not in 'client update prohibited' status.

Confirm Contact Information

Before you can transfer a domain, the Registrant and Administrative contact information must be up-to-date at Wild West Domains because it is these contacts who receive the transfer request and okay the transfer.

To update these contacts at Wild West Domains:

  1. Log in to your account.
  2. In the 'Basic Settings' section, click 'Domains'.
  3. In the 'Contact' menu, click 'Edit Registrant Contact' or 'Edit Administrative Contact'.
  4. In the 'Data source' menu, click the 'Use my user data as the Reg-C' item if your account contact information is up-to-date and should be applied to this contact. Click the "Let me use an alternative Reg-C" item if the Registrant or Administrative contact information should be different than the account owner information.
  5. Select the "I am aware . . ." check box and the 'Admin-C and Tech-C' option.
  6. Click 'Next'.
  7. Click 'Submit'.

Obtain the Authorization Code

Some TLDs require that you provide an authorization code for your domain name, to provide an extra level of assurance that the transfer request comes from an authorized source.

To transfer a .com, .net, .org, .info, .biz, .us, .name, or .cc domain name, obtain the authorization code from Wild West Domains

  1. Log in to your account.
  2. In the 'Basic Settings' section, click 'Domains'.
  3. Select the check box next to the name you want to transfer, and click 'Info'.
  4. The authorization code displays in the interface. Copy and store it; you'll need to supply it when you submit your transfer request at eNom.

Transfers of other TLDs do not require authorization codes.

Unlock the Domain

Before you can transfer a domain away from Wild West Domains, the domain must be unlocked. Locking is a feature most registrars offer to prevent unauthorized transfers (hijacking) of domains.

To unlock:

  1. Log in to your account.
  2. In the 'Basic Settings' section, click 'Domains'.
  3. Select the check box next to the name you want to transfer.
  4. In the 'Transfers' menu, click 'Lock/Unlock'.
  5. Select 'Unlock' and click 'OK'.

Transfer the Domain Name to BigRock

Once you have prepared the domain name at Wild West Domains, you're ready to transfer to eNom.

  1. Log on to your BigRock account.
  2. Navigate to 'Domains' -> 'Transfer a Domain Name'.
  3. Select a transfer method ('Autoverification' or 'Fax', see Notes below) and click 'Next'.
  4. List the domain names you want to transfer, one per line. Each line should include the domain name *comma* *space* and then the authorization code. Separate each line using the 'Enter' key:
    Example:
    FirstDomainName.com,
    SecondDomainName.com,
  5. Set the 'Registrar Lock', 'Auto-Renew', 'Whois', and 'Password' options as you wish.
  6. Click 'Next'.
  7. For Fax transfers, fill in the contact information and click 'Next'.
  8. Click 'Submit'.
  9. When the domain name contacts receive email from BigRock asking them to approve the transfer, do so by following the instructions in the email.

Note: To decide whether to use the Auto Verification or Fax transfer method, weigh the following considerations:
Auto verification involves approving one domain per approval email; Fax involves assembling and faxing identity verification and a list of domains to transfer.

Auto verification is generally easier for transferring small numbers of domains (a dozen or so; more if you don't have convenient access to a fax machine); Fax is easier for transferring larger numbers of domains. Auto verification allows you to transfer domains with different Registrant and Admin contacts; Fax method requires the same Registrant and Admin contact information for all domains listed in the request.

If you plan to transfer a large number of domains, but in separate requests, ask BigRock's transfer specialists to keep your proof of identity on file so you don't have to resubmit it with every transfer request. Auto verification is the easiest method if you are transferring from a registrar that does not list Registrant or Administrative email addresses.

For .uk and .ca names, always use the Auto verification method.

After you submit a transfer request, status messages help you track progress and correct any problems that arise.

Transferring Domains from Fast Domain

When a domain is transferred the name servers associated with the domain will stay the same (e.g., ns1.OldRegistrar.com and ns1. OldRegistrar.com). However, as the domain is no longer with the Old Registrar, the Old Registrar's name servers will stop responding to any queries for your domain. This causes downtime until you switch your domain to our DNS. Check out how to reduce downtime in this case in our Knowledgebase article.

Note: If you are using a third party DNS like your hosting company, the domain transfer will not cause any downtime issues (as the DNS server settings will not change during the transfer).

Before submitting a transfer request with us please obtain EPP code (if applicable) from Fast Domain, make sure that the domain is unlocked and contact information associated with the domain is valid and up-to-date.

Follow these steps to Transfer your Domain to BigRock

Please use these instructions if you have cPanel access. If you do not have cPanel access please visit http://www.fastdomain.com/dm and you can log in with your old cPanel user name and password to administer your domains, then follow along starting at step 5.

  1. Login to the cPanel
  2. Find the Domains section
  3. Click the Domain Manager icon
  4. This should display the Hosting tab of the Domain Manager
  5. Click on the Domain Manager tab
  6. Here you will see the list of your domain names, registered at Fast Domain
  7. Put a check mark next to the domain that you wish to transfer
  8. Go to Privacy tab
  9. Select the button that says 'Pause Domain Privacy'. If privacy is already disabled, then skip this step.
  10. Next, go to Contacts tab
  11. Fill out the information for the Registrant, Admin, and Billing sections. This information can be the same or different for all three sections. Please verify that all the information is valid and up-to-date, as you will need to approve the transfer by email that would be sent to the Administrative contact email.
  12. Next, go to Transfer EPP tab. Here you will see the code, please copy it so you can later enter it into Namecheap's control panel.
  13. Go to Lock tab
  14. Click the button which reads Click here to unlock your domain name.

Transferring Domains from eNom

To transfer a domain from eNom to BigRock, you will need the following

  1. Your domain unlocked
  2. Access to the email address on file for the administrative contact for the domain
  3. Authorization or EPP code (for .com, .net, .org, .biz, .info, .us, .tv, .name, .de, and .asia domains)
  4. If you do not have the above information, you can obtain it from eNom. Note that the domain transfer cannot succeed unless the domain name is unlocked, the administrative email address is valid, and the correct authorization code is provided.

See below for a description of the specific elements and issues involved in transferring a domain from eNom to BigRock.

Unlocking Domain

By default, most domains registered with eNom are placed under "Domain Lock" protection. Domain locking serves to prevent unauthorized transfers of your domain.

Before a domain transfer is requested, the lock must be removed and the registry status verified as "Active".

To Unlock a Domain

  1. Log in to your eNom account.
  2. From the Registered Domains list, select Manage Domains.
  3. Click on the applicable domain name .
  4. Click General Settings.
  5. In the Registrar Lock row, select Disable.
  6. Click Save.

Note that it may take 24 hours before the BigRock system recognizes the status change.

* If you do not have a direct eNom account, please contact your reseller to obtain this information. If you do not know the name of your reseller, go to eNom's Help page and enter your domain name in the Reseller Information Retrieval Tool: http://www.enom.com/help/

The Importance of the Administrative Domain Contact

The administrative contact is one of the four contacts listed in the Whois database for a registered domain. The contact information is defined by the registrant. As part of the domain transfer process, we will send a transfer approval email message to the domain's administrative contact listed in the Whois database. The email message contains the Transaction ID and Security Code that enable the administrative contact to approve the transfer.

If you have just removed the lock from a domain registered with eNom (the "unlock" procedure is described above), 24 hours should elapse before the administrative contact responds to the transfer approval email message, as it can take up to 24 hours before our system recognizes changes to the domain's Whois information. Any attempt to respond to the transfer approval message before the status change has been completed will result in transfer failure. You will receive an instant email notification of the failed transfer.

Changing Administrative Contact Information

If you need to alter the contact information for your domain's administrative contact, please proceed thus:

  1. Log in to your eNom account.
  2. From the Registered Domains row, select Manage Domains.
  3. Click the domain to be changed.
  4. From the Manage Domain menu, click Contact Information.Select Custom and enter the changes as needed.
  5. Click Save.

Note: While the updates will be reflected in the eNom Whois data within minutes, it may take up to 24 hours before the BigRock system recognizes the changes.

* If you do not have a direct eNom account, please contact your reseller to obtain this information. If you do not know the name of your reseller, go to eNom's Help page and enter your domain name in the Reseller Information Retrieval Tool: http://www.enom.com/help/

Authorization Code

In order to transfer a .com, .net, .biz, .info, .name, . org, or .us domain name you will need an authorization code. An authorization code is a unique code assigned by registrars to .com, .net, .biz, .us, .info, .name, and .org domain names at the time of registration.

To find the authorization code for your domain

  1. Log in to your eNom account.
  2. From the Registered Domains row, select Manage Domains.
  3. Click the domain to be changed.
  4. From the Manage Domain menu, click Contact Information.
  5. The EPP/authorization code is displayed beneath the Auxiliary Billing Contact at the bottom of the page.

Transferring Domain

Assuming that the above issues are in order, the domain transfer process proceeds thus:

  1. Advise the domain's administrative contact that the domain name is being transferred.
  2. We will email the administrative contact by the next business day with instructions on how to approve the transfer.
  3. Once the administrative contact has approved the domain transfer, BigRock will send a transfer request to the registry. If the domain's administrative contact does not have access to the account from which the transfer request was purchased, the recipient of the email request must forward the Transaction ID and Security Code to someone who does. These codes must be entered on the Pending Domain Transfer screen in your account in order to approve the transfer. Once the Transaction ID and Security Code are successfully entered, BigRock will request the transfer at the registry. The registrar of record then has five calendar days to deny the transfer. If the registrar of record does not deny the transfer, the transfer is automatically approved.
  4. The registry will contact eNom via email.
  5. eNom will send an acceptance or rejection notice to the registry.
  6. The registry will notify BigRock of the acceptance or rejection.
  7. We will inform you via email that the transfer is complete.

Should the domain transfer fail, we will notify you via email. You may resubmit your transfer request if the transfer fails. However, to ensure that the information listed in your transfer request remains valid, you will have 30 days from the time of your purchase to complete the transfer.

Transferring Domains from Register.com

BigRock can accept transfers from any registrar, and the transfers can often be completed in as little as five days or less. Some transfers may take up to seven days to complete. To transfer a domain from Register.com to BigRock, you will need to be aware of the following information about the domain:

  • Domain status will currently be locked or active.
  • Administrative contact email for the registered domain, and must be current.
  • Authorization or EPP code for the domain (.com, .net, .org, .biz, .us, .name, and .info TLDs only).

If you do not have the above information on hand, you can obtain it from Register.com.

Note: A domain transfer cannot succeed unless the domain name is unlocked, the administrative e-mail address is valid, and the correct authorization code is provided (for .com, .net, .org, .biz, .us., .name, and .info domains).

Unlocking the Domain

By default, all domains registered with Register.com are placed under DOMAIN LOCK protection. Domain locking serves to prevent unauthorized transfers of your domain. Before BigRock can send a domain transfer request, the lock must be removed at Register.com and the registry status verified as 'Active'.

How to Unlock a Domain at Register.com

  1. Log in to your Register.com Account Manager.
  2. From the main menu, select the domain you want to unlock. The domain details display.
  3. In the 'Enable/Disable Domain Lock' section, click 'Disable Domain Lock' (If the domain is unlocked, the link displays as 'Enable Domain Lock').
  4. Click 'Continue' to view the Register.com confirmation page.

The administrative contact is one of the four contacts listed in the Whois database for a registered domain. The contact information is defined by the registrant when the domain was initially purchased through Register.com.

As part of the domain transfer process, BigRock will send a transfer-approval e-mail message to the domain's administrative contact listed in the Whois database. The e-mail message will contain the Transaction ID and Security Code that enable the administrative contact to approve the transfer. The Transaction ID and Security Code will be generated when the transfer request is made through BigRock and you have paid the new registration fee.

If you have just removed the lock from a domain registered with Register.com (using the 'unlock' procedure as described above), 24 hours should elapse before the administrative contact responds to the transfer approval e-mail message from BigRock, as it can take up to 24 hours before BigRock recognizes changes to the domain's Whois information. Any attempt to respond to the transfer approval message before the status change has been completed will result in a transfer failure. You will receive an instant e-mail notification of the failed transfer.

If you need to alter the contact information for your domain's administrative contact, follow these steps:

  1. Log in to your Register.com Account Manager.
  2. Select the domain name for which you want to update contact information.

  6. Click 'Continue'.
  7. Verify the revised contact information; then click 'Continue'.

The updated contact information displays. Note that it may take up to 24 hours for the changes to take effect.

Authorization Code

In order to transfer a .com, .net, .biz, .info, .name, . org, or .us domain name you will need an authorization code. An authorization code is a unique code assigned by registrars to .com, .net, .biz, .us, .info, .name, and .org domain names at the time of registration. To obtain the authorization code for your domain, contact Register.com at 1-800-200-7625

Transferring Domain

Assuming that the above issues are in order, the domain transfer to BigRock proceeds like this:

  • Advise the domain's administrative contact that the domain name is being transferred.
  • BigRock will e-mail the administrative contact by the next business day with instructions on how to approve the transfer.
  • Once the administrative contact has approved the domain transfer, BigRock will send a transfer request to the registry. If the domain's administrative contact does not have access to the BigRock account from which the transfer request was purchased, the recipient of the e-mail request must forward the Transaction ID and Security Code to someone who does. These codes must be entered on the Pending Domain Transfer screen in your BigRock account in order to approve the transfer. Once the Transaction ID and Security Code are successfully entered, Go Daddy will request the transfer at the registry. The registrar of record then has five calendar days to deny the transfer. If the registrar of record does not deny the transfer, the transfer is automatically approved.
  • The registry will contact Register.com via e-mail.
  • Register.com will notify the administrative contact of the transfer via e-mail.
  • Register.com will send an acceptance or rejection notice to the registry. If the registrar fails to deny the transfer within five days, the registry will move the domain registration to BigRock.
  • The registry will notify BigRock of the acceptance or rejection.
  • BigRock will inform you via e-mail that the transfer is complete.

Should the domain transfer fail, BigRock will notify you via e-mail. You may resubmit your transfer request if the transfer fails. However, to ensure that the information listed in your transfer request remains valid, you will have only 30 days from the time of your purchase to complete the transfer at BigRock.
